Consultation has concluded

What: Free community lunch in honour of Mr. Serge R. Lalonde and the naming of the hall.

Where: Serge R. Lalonde Community Centre

When: Sunday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Who: The event is organized in partnership with the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet, La Binerie de Plantagenet, and Plantagenet in Action.

History 

Following a petition of over 400 signatures submitted to Council in November 2023, the Arts, Culture, and Heritage Committee and Council members voted to change the name of the Plantagenet Community Hall to the Serge R. Lalonde Plantagenet Community Hall.

To celebrate the many accomplishments of Mr. Serge R. Lalonde, La Binerie de Plantagenet invites residents to a free community dinner in his honour.

Serge R. Lalonde

Serge Lalonde was the founder of Imprimerie Serge Printing and Bingo. In addition to having been a pioneer as a printing service provider in the Township for over 36 years, Mr. Lalonde also distinguished himself through his volunteer work. With the Plantagenet Lions Club, of which he was a founding member Picture of Serge R Lalonde and president on many occasions, he organized numerous New Year's Eve parties, spaghetti suppers and loaned equipment to people with mobility issues for almost 30 years.

Among other things, he was also a founding member of the Plantagenet Knights of Columbus, an election volunteer and president of the Plantagenet Centennial in 1977. That year, he organized the largest Saint-Jean-Batiste parade found anywhere between Ottawa and Montreal.

Mr. Lalonde completed five terms as Township councillor, 42 years as a Plantagenet volunteer firefighter, and 20 years as a school trustee.

Mr. Serge Lalonde will turn 90 in November 2024, leaving behind him an incredible volunteer service record in the village of Plantagenet and throughout the Township.
