In appreciation of the strong spirit of volunteerism within the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet, the municipality wishes to recognize and reward the people who give time and service to enrich the quality of life in our community.

Every two years during a volunteer appreciation event, recipients from all villages in the Township will be receive awards from the following categories:

  • Resident candidates (ages 25 and over);
  • Youth candidates (25 and under);
  • One candidate residing outside the Township but who contributes to the development of one or more of the region’s villages;

All deserving candidates will be notified prior to the Volunteer Recognition Brunch.

Volunteer Recognition Brunch and naming ceremony

The Township's Volunteer Recognition Brunch and the naming ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 18, at the Curran Jean-Yves Lalonde Community Hall. The Township will recognize not only volunteers involved in municipal committees and the local volunteers nominated by their peers but also the incredible implication of Jean-Yves Lalonde.

The brunch will take place at 10am and the naming ceremony will be after.

All nominees and recipients will receive additional tickets.

Purchasing Tickets

Anyone wishing to attend the event can purchase tickets at the Town Hall in Plantagenet for $30 per ticket.

Jean-Yves Lalonde


Mr. Jean-Yves Lalonde passed away on April 20, 2024, at the age of 74. A native of Curran, he had a career spanning more than 33 years in education and served as mayor of the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet from 2003 to 2014, in addition to serving as president of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (CUPR) twice, in 2007 and 2011. He was also heavily involved with the Optimist Club, the Golden Age Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and St. Luke's Parish. In short, he was a pillar of the Curran community. His wife, Ms. Lalonde submitted a petition signed by some 126 citizens supporting the request to rename the forum in favor of the Jean-Yves Lalonde Community Hall.

On Tuesday, January 13, the municipal council passed a resolution recognizing Jean-Yves Lalonde's outstanding contribution to public life in the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet, and more particularly to the development of the village of Curran, notably through his tireless volunteer work. It was also resolved that the Curran Forum be renamed the “Jean-Yves Lalonde Community Hall.”

  • Rules and eligibility:

    • The application for all outstanding volunteers must be received by March 6 2026.
    • The nominee can still be active as a volunteer or was active in the past.
    • A nominee may be nominated more than once, but may not win the Volunteer of the Year Award more than once in five years.
    • City staff and serving members of council shall not be nominated for this award.

    Award Ceremony:

    • The Outstanding Volunteer Brunch award ceremony shall take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the first day of the National Volunteer Week.
    • The ceremony will be a brunch in one of the Township’s hall.
    • Recipients of all the awards will be noticed before the event.
    • The recipient for the “life-long achievement award” will be invited to the award ceremony with six extra tickets.
    • Recipient will be invited to the Outstanding Volunteer Brunch award ceremony with three extra tickets.
    • All nominees will be invited to the Outstanding Volunteer Brunch award ceremony with one extra ticket.

    All rules and regulation are based on the Volunteer recognition policy. The nominator and nominee must consent for the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet to collect, share and disclose all information related to the nomination.
